Updated Projects.

I decided that I wanted to update my infograph project. I liked that way that my original one turned out but I still wanted to change it up. I went with a really simple design. I used red, white and blue bars to represent the US and their average yearly users. For my bars I used bright colors to represent me. I still used the symbols for the different social networks. Im happy with this design because I think it is simple and user friendly.

End of semester.

What do you feel that you personally learned from the course?
I feel that I have learned a lot more about the finalizing of design in this course. I've learned that even after you reach a final product, its possible to still further your design to make it better. I feel like many of the skills that I had previously were strengthened throughout the semester.

What new knowledge or skills do you feel proudest about?

I feel proudest about some of the new knowledge in illustrator and photoshop that i've learned this year. I feel like they are tools that i will use in the future.

How do you think you have improved?

I think that some of my design skills have improved. I feel like I can look at things from different angles.

What did you work on in class that you are most interested in pursuing on your own?

I think I would be most interested in pursuing the PSA posters. I think I would like to extend my design and use redo the handwritten type on it.

Zine Update.

I've made a basic layout of my zine so far with text included.
I'm now on the hunt for diagrams to possibly include and pictures to trace and then add to my pages. I'm liking the progress of my zine so far.

Zine Topic

My topic for my zine is...
How To Know If You're Dating A Vampire.

Im wanting to get pictures from some of the vampire shows/books that I know of and then make them into a cartoonish style. I also like the style of the True Blood posters. I like the whittyness of them.

Finalish.

Here's my infograph. I'll most likely change things around again. For the most part I like the outcome of it. I think it's really similar to the World of 100 infographs that were the base of my idea.

Infographics One.

Here is my first draft of my social network infographic. I followed the design idea from the World of 100 infographics. The United States represents the average number of users. The glasses represent my number of daily uses.

Idea!

I think that I have officially picked my topic for the infographics.
I got the statistics for the average daily users of facebook, twitter and youtube. I'm going to do my own statistics by recording how many times a day I get on the powerful three links. Right now I'm brainstorming ideas on how to illustrate both of the statistics.

Infographics Brainstorming.

I've come up with a few statistic ideas.

-15% left handed

-30% redheads
-27% brunette
-26% blonde
What Color?

I've also come up with an idea to see how many people use each of the social networks. I'll then compare my results to it. Meaning that I will keep track of how many times I use Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace.

I've also looked at some graphics for visual ideas.
I like the look of all of these graphs. They are simple and eye catching.
Here are some more samples, The World Of 100
I enjoy the comparison between the two players on this graph.
With this graph I like the bright colors and the simplicity of the design.
This one is graphically pleasing to me.

This artist makes her pictures using Photoshop. I would be interested in learning how she does it.
Photoshop Wiz Kid

Steve Mack has a lot of illustrations that I like. They are all really bright and playful.

Final Poster.

This is my final project. I put some different photoshop filters over the pictures to go along with some of the scans that I originally had. The background of the poster is from a breast cancer self check diagram. The pattern is repeated over and over again.

One of the requirements of the project was that your poster include handwritten typography. I tried changing the "Wear Pink" part of my poster to handwritten typography but I didn't like the way it ended up looking. I made the decision when it came to presenting time to go ahead with the poster that doesn't have handwritten typography on it because I find it to be more successful.

PSA Poster Ideas.

I found some layouts in How magazine [minus the last one that I got out of New Vintage Type] that I really liked. I like a layout that has a simplistic look but still has enough going on to keep the reader entertained. The bold shapes and bright colors are something that I would like to carry into my PSA poster. So far my PSA poster idea is to make a simple image that has bright colors, maybe orange, blue or green, through bold images and some type to support the images. I'm thinking of doing a PSA for Breast Cancer Awareness or Polar Bear Endangerment.

Alternative Representation.

I've finished all of my pictures of my letters. For the most part I'm pleased with their outcome. A few of them I think I will retake for a better quality picture and maybe a new design idea.
Here's the link to check out my pictures.

Designed Letters

Our second project for this semester is to illustrate our name by creating letters out of different materials. So far I have taken a few pictures. I made a T out of paperclips, C out of cereal, L out of Gold Fish and I out of colored pencils. I decided to use the font Helvetica Neue Bold with all capital letters. Some of my other ideas are to use glitter, tape, soap, gummy bears and string.
If you have any ideas let me know!
The T made out of paperclips, unedited.

Final.

Here is my final draft. I fixed the sharp points by rounding them out. For the most part I am pleased with my design.

Design Ideas.

These are my original ideas for the story.
My train ride to St. Louis, going to concerts and being an Aunt.

Here are some different drafts of the train ride idea.

This is a new idea. Over summer I started "balloon painting".

This is my current favorite idea. It's a story of the fire alarm that went off at 5 am.

This is my final drawing for the balloon painting idea.
I flipped the direction of the balloon
I also changed the color around. The black background makes the paint blobs stand out more.
This is my final drawing for the 5 am fire drill.
Tamed down the flames and added more black.
